Ford Ev'ry Stream, While You're at It
Climb Ev'ry Mountain Day is an obvious nod to The Sound of Music.
Or is it?
Who's to say that, when they invented this day, they were literally thinking of that musical? Couldn't they have been pondering setting a world record for most mountains climbed? With the goal of climbing all of them?
If you add in the figurative mountains, which I seriously doubt anyone was considering, you could have a significant number of uphill and downhill steps to take.
One factor that complicates all this is that there's no clear definition of what a mountain is.
I used to think that it was any peak that was 10,000 feet or more from base to top, regardless of sea level. These days I read that that just ain't necessarily so.
That said, it's probably still a decent rule of thumb if you're looking to set a record for peaks topped.
I'd like to try to climb a small mountain someday. Maybe one that's only 5000 feet or so but still looks like a mountain.
