Give at Least 110% Day

No Slouching Today

If you watch professional sports at all, you understand that this special day originates in comments frequently made by athletes and coaches who really know how to give a 110% effort.

On Give at Least 110% Day, you can do that or better, despite what Dwight seems to be saying. Make January 27 the day that (if you're in the business world) you achieve that coveted grade, "Performs above expectations".

If you give it your all - plus 10% or more - today, you might even be remembered as someone who regularly does that well.

"Man, did you hear what Poindexter did today, Bob? If he doesn't get the chairman's Above and Beyond Award, I don't know who will. He'll probably even get a big bonus. I'd say he gave at least 113, maybe 114, percent today."

Wouldn't you love it if Bob were saying that about you? Bob would probably even slip your manager a note about your 110%+ just to make sure you weren't overlooked. (That's the kind of guy Bob is.)

I can't tell you exactly how to achieve a performance of 110% or more today because it will vary greatly depending on your job or even whether you're in a hired position or not.

One thing is obvious though. If you do pretty much what you did yesterday, statistics show you're probably only going to hit between 54% and 73%. I guess that means some people will have to try really hard to get to 110% today and others might as well forget it.

You'll get 'em next year.
