Tree Awareness Day

Hug 'Em, If You Got 'Em

You may not be aware, especially if you live in or near the center of a major metropolis, that there are these (generally) tall brown and (generally) green growths called trees out in the wild (generally).

Today, Tree Awareness Day, was created especially for folks like you.

Trees, both deciduous and evergreen, produce a lot of oxygen which you and other creatures need to breathe. So celebrate this special day in good health.

Trees play a big role in some of the segments of the Planet Earth series (that you can get on DVD).

A few years ago, I remember hearing a lot about the destruction of large sections of the Amazon rain forest. I haven't heard much about it lately. Does anyone know why?

Several years ago, we took a vacation to Yosemite National Park and got to see some of the largest trees in the world. They were impressive, but somehow not as impressive as I expected them to be. So much for expectations.

Also several years ago, I planted a maple tree in our front yard. It grew about 6 inches one year. Then it was gone the next year. Then it grew about 6 inches the next year. I didn't realize until it was a couple dozen feet tall that it wasn't the maple I had planted. It was a box elder.

Awareness. Get it.
