Invent a Number Day could prove one of the more challenging invention days of Invention Week.
It's true that there are already things call imaginary numbers. The most common one is the square root of negative 1 which is denoted as i.
I think it's a fault in the decimal numbering system that we have to use such weird concepts as i. The fact that mathematicians can even discuss the idea of the square root of a negative number means something very basic is just wrong.
Sure, it all seems to work out in the end. But What If We're Wrong?
I think you can see why I consider today a challenging day. If we already have something as strange as i, it's going to take some serious maths (I hate that word) on your part to come up with something similar or better.
Here's a little more proof that there's something wrong with our numbers. What is pi? What is e? Who cares what a logarithm is?
We don't even know what the area of a circle is!
