Not the Byrds - Though Not a Bad Idea Either
Listen to the Birds Day is your chance to get in touch with nature.
Open a window or go outside for a while, sit back, and just listen.
I bet you'll be surprised how many different bird calls you hear. If you hear less than 6 different calls, you live in the wrong place.
Move.
Don't confuse a squirrel's or a chippy rat's (chipmunk's) chattering for a bird's song.
In our neck of the woods, it's easy to hear robins, goldfinches, cardinals, chickadees, sparrow, house finches, mourning doves, red wing blackbirds, and the occasional bluejay, grackle, and a few more.
You maybe can't tell right now which birds you're hearing, but that doesn't matter. Just being able to distinguish one from another is a good start.
Eventually, if you do this often enough, you'll both see and hear the bird at the same time. Then you'll be able to put the species and its call together.
Then you'll be a birder! Isn't that special?
