Pop the Clutch
Shift Day was invented back in the day before there were automatic transmissions.
I still can't really drive a manual transmission vehicle. If that makes me a bad person, tough beans.
I mean, why should I learn something totally unnecessary? I'm never going to own a car (or truck...hah!) that doesn't have an automatic transmission.
I don't think I even know anyone who owns a manual that I could practice with even if I wanted to.
The gas savings that some claim you get from running a manual are insignificant, especially thanks to North Dakota. And by the time that oil runs out, we'll all be riding in automated cars anyway.
Now there's a shift worth getting used to: How to handle a world full of automated cars.
It doesn't seem clear yet whether we'll all own automated cars or whether we'll use them more like taxis. Probably both in some cases. Maybe we'll rent them.
Anyway, if you own a vehicle that you have to shift to make it work, have a nice day.
