Sittin' on the Bar Stool All Day
Watchin' the wine roll my way. (Apologies to Otis Redding.)
Bar Stool Sitters Day commemorates those who spend much of their seated time on tall chairs that usually have no arms and sometimes have no back.
As the name implies, most of these chairs are located in taverns, bars, and other such establishments that serve liquor. But you won't find all of them there, so patronizing one of those businesses is not mandatory for celebrating today.
Many homes also have bar stools. Ours used to have some fairly comfy, padded bar stools. We used them quite often for meals, even when no alcohol was involved.
Technically, the sitter on the bar stool doesn't have to be human. You could celebrate by letting your cat occupy the seat, but then you really should put a box on it first, put your cat in the box, take a picture, and post it on Facebook or whichever social site you frequent.
If you choose a different pet, such as a dog, hamster, or goldfish, no box or picture is needed. We'll take your word for it that that's how you celebrated.
