Non-Cents Day

Don't Count Your Change Before It's Spent

Non-Cents Day was originally intended to help the phasing out of the American penny, or cent. You were supposed to make sure that any purchases you made today didn't end in a 1, 2, 3, or 4 after tax.

That way you wouldn't have to use any pennies when paying with cash. Of course, many times you don't use cash these days anyway.

That was what was intended.

Due to an unfortunate choice of names, Non-Cents Day has become something more akin to Nonsense Day. What follows is obvious.

People are celebrating Non-Cents Day by doing the most nonsensical things they can think (or not think) of.

  • Looking at their phones and not paying attention to where they're walking.
  • Screaming at their televisions as if the athletes they're yelling at can hear them.
  • Spending cash and using pennies willy-nilly.

The list goes on.
