One of These Things Is Just Like the Other
Distinguish Between Two Similar Objects Day has its origins in antiquity. Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away, a young boy had trouble distinguishing between good and evil. They initially looked quite similar to him - even though to everyone else in the universe the differences were as plain as light and dark.
A wise old man, who knew this young boy, decided that it would hurt for everyone to make a conscious effort at least one day per year to distinguish between two similar things. To keep it simple, he decided to make the things objects, rather than abstract ideas.
So to this day, we celebrate his efforts on September 21, which is coincidentally often the first day of Autumn. The one occasion has no bearing on the other, however.
You may at this point be wondering whether that boy ever did succeed in distinguishing between good and evil, light and dark, black and white.
Nope. Not really.
If he had, he wouldn't have chosen the wrong one and wouldn't have had to waffle later on.
But such were his life and times. Thankfully, yours are different.
