The word archaeologist (and related forms) is just spelled strangely, isn't it? There's an extra vowel in there somewhere. It's the "a", I guess.
Don't you wonder sometimes how all that ancient stuff got buried and lost for centuries?
I understand that desert sandstorms can do a lot of damage and cover a lot of stuff relatively quickly, but the occurrence a sandstorm wouldn't automatically make something like a whole city just disappear and be forgotten.
I know that in some cases a city would be virtually leveled by conquerors and then built on top of again, apparently because of location, location, location.
But I think there are other cases where archaeologists dig up things that just kinda went missing after a while. How does that happen? Can you imagine it happening today?
Anybody seen Cleveland lately?
