Make Your Electric Bill Go Down by Changing Your Light Bulbs
I'm not convinced that the folks who make the latest style of light bulbs - the kind that should last for years and years - understand that they're working themselves out of a job.
It used to be that you replaced incandescent (old style) light bulbs every few months or so, depending on how often you actually turned a given light on.
Now, with fluorescents or LEDs, you should only have to replace them every decade or so. I've heard of people who don't get results like that, but I wonder if the problem is in their electrical system and not in the bulbs.
So the way some would like you to celebrate January 7 is by replacing all of your light bulbs. I guess the idea is to level the playing field, so you can see just which ones do last the longest and which ones you use the most.
If your light fixtures are like ours though, you'll find that there are some that you probably don't want to replace with one of the newer styles. We have larger, globe bulbs in the bathroom that just look good as yellowish incandescents.
The fluorescents and the LEDs, if used everywhere, could make a dent in your electric bill. It's probably hard for the average person to figure out the savings, unless you have an app for that. If you know of one, tell Da Unyun about it.
Have some fun today then shopping for new bulbs at your local hardware store, or at Walmart, or online at Amazon. Pick some good-looking bulbs, especially for those not covered by a lamp shade, because you'll most likely have to live with them for the next ten years or more.
