But Stay Out of the Tree Tops
Perhaps the name of this day should be Use a Rocking Chair Safely Day because it's not intended that you use the chair for anything but its intended purpose - rocking.
On Use a Rocking Chair Day, you can rock in either a traditional rocking chair or the more recent rocker-recliner, whichever one is more accessible to you.
If you can rock with someone, so much the better. If that person is smaller than you, better still. If that person will let you read a book to them, better still. If one or both of you fall asleep while rocking, better still.
If you don't have a rocking chair handy, maybe you can visit a friend or relative who does own one and use theirs when it's unoccupied - or not (see previous paragraph).
Who came up with that nursery rhyme, Rock-a-Bye Baby? I was just thinking about how awful that thing is. Yet it's the first one most people start singing while rocking an infant or toddler in a rocking chair.
I guess it's never really scarred anyone for life or a lesser amount of time. Maybe that's because you don't really think about what's happening when you're little.
If you've got a favorite replacement for that tune, let us know.
