International Ocean Awareness Day

Avast, Matey!

International Ocean Awareness Day only works if everyone in the Whole Wide World (WWW) participates. That's partly why it's classified as International.

The other reason that it's classified as International is that it would be stupid just to have one country celebrate Ocean Awareness Day when oceans pretty much by definition touch more than one country.

So tell all your International friends to be aware of the oceans today, especially the one nearest them. Maybe we won't get everyone to buy into this this year, but by next year it'll be easy.

I wonder if Brexit would have happened so relatively easily if Britain hadn't had a small piece of the ocean (okay, a channel, but it's really just the ocean trying to squeeze through a narrow space) already separating them from continental Europe.

I'm already starting to hate the "word", actually a hashtag, Brexit, but you really have to keep using it while talking about the situation because everyone else understands what you mean immediately, and you don't have to use more than one word to get that meaning across.

I wonder how long it will be before one of the major dictionaries adds Brexit (I've been capitalizing it, but I don't think that's necessary) to the lexicon.

Who/what will be next? Frexit? Spexit? Grexit? Chexit? (I like that one!) Hexit? (Not bad either.)
