She's Got One
The obligatory opening to this post is hinted at in the heading just above, so I'll leave it at that.
The first thing I actually think of when I hear that it's Get a Ticket to Ride Day is the board game called Ticket to Ride.
Ticket to Ride is a popular game that involves placing trains on a map of the United States (if you're playing the original version). By itself, that maybe doesn't sound all that exciting, but it is lots of fun when you know all the rules, which I won't explain here. You can read about them elsewhere.
Getting a ticket to ride doesn't have to involve that game or a train ticket. You could get a ticket for any other mode of transportation that offers them - airplane, bus, subway, taxi, your own car.
Sure...you could create your own ticket, hop in your car, and ride. There's nothing in the rules for today that says you can't.
Of course, it makes the most sense to celebrate today if you have a destination in mind. But sometimes people like to take a trip for the sake of the traveling itself. Ever heard of joy riding?
I guess that's probably not as popular as it once was, but it's still an option.
Enjoy the ride...with your ticket.
