National Clean the Inside of Your Refrigerator Day

Ew! What's That?

National Clean the Inside of Your Refrigerator Day may largely be sponsored by some health council or some such. Hopefully you won't find anything growing in there that isn't supposed to be growing.

It's always a little surprising that the inside of a fridge can get so gunky. Much of the food in there is in packages or is of the type that doesn't rub off onto other surfaces. So how does it get so messy after a while?

I think it has something to do with the light bulb. You know it's supposed to switch off when you close the door, but does it really stay unlit? For standard refrigerators, we'll never know.

Maybe the newer "smart" fridges can tell you if the light is off or not.

I think someone also makes a kind you can see through. But maybe those need the light to be on all the time so you can see inside? I dunno. I just might be making this up.

When cleaning, be sure to get all the surfaces. Some of those foods can be really sneaky. And if you have a freezer compartment, that counts as part of your fridge too.

You're probably thinking that it's a good thing this day only comes once a year. I agree.

Why does fridge have a "d" in it?
