Create a Special Day Day

It's Your Turn

I've done it 365 times this year. Now it's your turn. It's Create a Special Day Day.

Make up, fabricate, create out of thin air a special day of your own.

The only qualification is that it should celebratable. (Most of mine were.)

I'm done creating my own.

So what will become of Da Unyun next year?

I'm not sure. I had thought about making some predictions, even though I'm not psychic.

I'll probably just leave this blog sit here though. I've currently, at the end of 2016, got plenty of other irons in the fire.

One I just recently poked in there is Grandpa's Reviews. That will probably take enough of my time to fill the void left by dropping this site.

What do you think?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Let's Review Day

Take Time to Reflect

The end of the year is almost here. It's time to look back at where we've been.

I won't list all the special days that I've written about since January 1. I encourage you to flip back through some of the posts for yourself to relive some of those magical moments.

The end of a year is pretty much a contrived thing. Yes, the Earth is roughly in the same position relative to the sun that it was 365 days ago. But it just keeps revolving. And the whole solar system is in a different place in the galaxy than it was at this time last year.

What matters most to many humans at the end of a year is taxes. How much will the government want based on what I've done in the past year?

If you have read any of these posts at Da Unyun over the past year but still haven't read the IAQ page, please do so now. I'll be glad you did.

Sometimes the quality of writing in these posts was pretty good and deceptive.

Merry Christmas.

If you're wondering why I keep saying "Merry Christmas" long after Christmas Day, you need to read up on the 12 Days of Christmas.

Don't Untrim Outdoor Trees and Bushes Week

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Many of you probably trimmed the trees and bushes (in addition to your house) with colored lights in preparation for Christmas.

It's tempting to go out and remove those lights now that Christmas Day is past, but don't do it. This is Don't Untrim Outdoor Trees and Bushes Week. You can't celebrate it by doing just the opposite.

If you've already done it, don't bother going out and trimming things again. It's just too late for you this year. Think ahead to next year.

Many people celebrate this week almost by default. They leave their trees and bushes trimmed with lights all year around. They just don't (usually) turn the lights on. This is especially true of those with very large, tall trees that are really tough to decorate.

I wonder what those people do if a string of lights goes bad.

Maybe someone should start an outdoor Christmas lights trimming service.

If I just thought of that now, someone probably already has such a business up and running.

Merry Christmas.

Wishing Well Day

If You Have a Well to Wish In

There are two ways to celebrate Wishing Well Day.

1) You can toss a coin into a well and make a wish. The well need not be one that is specifically designated as a "wishing well". It can be a "well" in a mall, a real water well with a pump or a bucket, an oil well, or any other type of well.

2) You can request that good health be bestowed upon the person of your choosing. You can wish them well.

Neither option is preferred over the other. You can do both methods if the opportunity arises.

The only qualification on method #2 is that you have to really mean it. Just saying, "How ya doing?" as a greeting doesn't cut it. After all, most people who ask that really don't care how you are. If you simply answer that question when they ask, most of the time they don't know how to respond.

They probably didn't even realize they asked the question in the first place.

Merry Christmas. How's it going?

Spider Y2 Banana Day

Do You Know Vic?

Banana Spider
If you know Vic (or Jon Gruden), then you already know the significance of Spider Y2 Banana Day. I don't need to tell you anything more, and you can stop reading here.

For those who don't know Vic, let me just say that you aren't much of a Green Bay Packers fan. And that's not okay. Everyone should be a Packers fan.

Spider Y2 Banana is a special code name for a football play. No one is really sure what the play is, but it seems to be called fairly often.

Mostly by bad teams who are the Packers' opponents.

Then again, it could be the name of the Jordy play. (If you don't know what the Jordy play is, again, you're not really a Packers fanatic. Get with it.)

There is no real way to celebrate Spider Y2 Banana Day. The day just exists and you have to deal with it. Even becoming a true Packers fan doesn't qualify here.

Merry Christmas.

Fruitcake Experimentation Day

Did You Get It This Year?

There is the theory that there is only one fruitcake in the world and that it gets passed from person to person each year around Christmas. I don't know if that's true or not, but I don't recall ever personally receiving a fruitcake, so maybe it is true, and my turn just hasn't come yet.

In any case, try to find a fruitcake now (or a piece of one) so you can celebrate Fruitcake Experimentation Day with it.

The experiment(s) you perform on the fruitcake are limited only by your imagination. Here are a few suggestions.

  1. Feed some to your pet to see if they get sick (or worse).
  2. Drop a piece from a tall building to see how badly the pavement is damaged.
  3. Use a blowtorch to try to see it on fire.
  4. Pick apart a small piece to see if you can find any actual fruit in it.
As I said, use your imagination. I'm sure you'll come up with even better ideas than those.

Merry Christmas.

Sharing Day

The Gift Is Love

It's all about the cross.
Sharing Day is for sharing as many things as you can and as much of each thing as you can.

The main thing to share is love.

The source of that love is God.

At Christmas time we usually think of Jesus and his birth as a human. Jesus is also God and therefore the same source of love.

Share Jesus. Share God.

Share him as often as you can and as much as you can. There are many, many ways to do so. I leave it to the reader to discover the multitude of ways you can share him.

If you don't know enough about him to share him, find out. There are many, many ways to do so. I leave it to the reader to discover the multitude of ways you can find him.

I will give you a hint though. All the paths to finding him will lead you to the Bible. Read the Bible. Learn about him. Live for him. Share him.

Merry Christmas.
